Small Moments

By Esther Cohen

Some of the most precious moments in life are often heart-warming and filled with love. They might be a flitting exchange, a gesture, a kind word… These moments remind us what is truly important and that we really matter. Recalling them can bring much-needed sunshine during those cloudy days.

Stop for a second and think about a moment that brought you joy.  Hear the sounds, relive the emotions, and sharpen the image and the colours in your mind’s eyes. Give yourself the chance to revisit it anytime you need a boost.

One of my most precious moments, now a memory, is holding my father’s hand. Though it has been many years since he left this world, I can still close my eyes and feel his hand holding mine tight as if telling me ‘Everything will be ok’. Then everything becomes ok.

Life comprises of ongoing moments that follow one another, adding up to days, weeks, and years. Throughout any one day, we experience a whole range of moments. Some are filled with laughter, joy, meaning and fulfilment. Some bring pain, regret, stress, and frustration. You have a choice of which moments to hang on to and which to discard (albeit with a little or a LOT of effort!). Your brain is your home, your safe space and you are the boss. Only the thoughts you allow to stay will stay.

Keep hold to the small nameless moments that bring warmth to your heart and a smile to your face. Share them with someone you cherish; share them with people you love and trust. By talking about them you bring them to the forefront of your memory and re-inspire yourself. By sharing them, you may well inspire those around you too.
