I listened to a wise man lecturing on self-care. He said that living life with positivity is not about whether one’s ‘cup’ is half-full or half-empty. It is about knowing that the cup is refillable.
Many of us rush through life guided by self-set ‘to-do’ lists that rarely prioritise pursuing our dreams and hopes. My daily task list used to be up to one page long. Now, it spreads over multiple pages, making it nearly (mostly!?) impossible to achieve it in a day. I know I am not alone in this. Society anticipates that we are always available and tuned in. E-mails and messages require a reply by return, not because it is necessary, but because it is expected despite the buzzword of our times being self-care.
The pandemic showed us that we CAN afford to take time for ourselves, and life will still go on. We do not have to incessantly prove our worth either to ourselves or others at the expense of our health and peace of mind, otherwise, we become depleted.
“You cannot serve from an empty vessel”.
We make choices at each moment of our lives. Choose to include self-care in your daily schedule and to set the boundaries that will allow you to live a meaningful and healthy life. You deserve it. Refill your cup as often as you need so that you can serve others from the overflow with the love and gratitude that comes from the blessing of self-care.
Take a moment to reflect on how you plan to do this. How much more whole you will feel when you remember to nourish your body, spirit and soul.
