Be Strong, Be Wise, Be Brave!
By Esther Cohen
Life can take us along some pretty rough roads. Sometimes the path we find ourselves on feels so difficult that we question our strength and ability to get through it. But… we don’t have to do it alone. True strength is knowing and admitting to ourselves when the going gets too tough to handle on our own. Wisdom means recognising our limitations and accepting that asking for help is not a weakness, it’s a strategic move.
Many people are afraid and feel ashamed of being vulnerable. They may be burdened by the weight of shame, guilt, and a sense of failure. Yet, having the courage to reach out for support even if it means taking a risk is true bravery. Not only do you give yourself permission to be vulnerable, but you also set an example that allows others to do so. You inspire others to ask for help when they need it. Leaving difficult feelings to fester makes the road back to wellness that much longer. Why wait? Courage lives in both independence and connection.
Needing help is a deeply human trait that opens the door to meaningful bonds, creating space for empathy and growth and the opportunity to inspire and be inspired.
As a therapist, I have the privilege of being present during some of my clients’ most challenging life journeys. Throughout the years, I’ve had and continue to have the honour of working with the most incredible, resilient, and inspiring people. My clients are amongst the most courageous individuals I’ve ever encountered. They face their struggles with strength, wisdom and bravery.
So off you go...
Be strong enough to stand on your own,
Wise enough to know when you need help,
Brave enough to ask for it.
